Stati cu ochii pe cer joi noapte, daca vreti sa admirati o ploaie adevarata de stele cazatoare. E un fenomen frumos, dar si periculos, anunta astronomii.

Meteoritii care intra in atmosfera si nu ard complet pot sa ajunga si pe Pamant. Iar Soarele, stapanul tuturor, ne poate face si el rau.

Ploaia de stele va dura mai bine de trei saptamani. Pe 6 mai atinge insa un maxim: la fiecare ora pe Pamant vor cadea peste 80 de meteoriti. Ca sa-i vedem bine, trebuie sa fim departe de lumina oraselor si, desigur, sa avem noroc de cer senin.

Potrivit astronomilor, meteoritii sunt bucati din cometa Halley, care a trecut pe langa Pamant in 1986. Ca orice cometa, Halley pierde din putere si lasa in urma asa-numitul "praf cosmic"."Pamantul intersecteaza aceasta dara de ramasite pe care le lasa nucleul cometar. In momentul cand acele particule din dara cometei sau asteroidului traverseaza atmosfera terestra, atunci prin frecare ard si noi vedem o dara luminoasa", explica Magda Stavinschi, cercetator la Obsevatorul Astronomic.

Adica o ploaie de stele. Cum unii meteoriti sunt mai mari de un metru, nu reusesc sa arda in atmosfera si ajung pe suprafata Pamantului.

Intre timp, un alt fenomen ii ingrijoreaza pe specialisti. O furtuna solara a lovit polii Pamantului acum trei zile si a provocat pentru scurt timp o scadere a puterii campului magnetic terestru. Din fericire, efectul a fost unul artistic: s-au produs cateva Aurore Boreale foarte frumoase.

Dar furtuna solara, daca ar fi fost mai puternica, putea influenta satelitii terestri, retelele de distributie a energiei electrice si telecomunicatiile de pe tot globul.
