UFOs over San Diego on Jan 1 2008

They are Date of Sighting: January 1, 2008
Time of Sighting: 12:30 PM PST
Date Sighting Reported: January 2, 2008
Duration of Sighting: Video of Objects is Less Than 2 Minutes

Location of Sighting: Clairmont, California (Suburub to North of Diego)

Latitude: 32.83 Degrees North
Longitude: 117.19 Degrees West

Number of Witnesses: Several (Exact Number Unknown.)

Weather: Clear Skies. Good Visibility. Surface Winds Were Calm. Winds up to 5,000 Feet Started From a Northeasterly Direction at About 8 MPH at 1,000 Feet and Then Directionally "Veered" to a Southeasterly Direction and the Speed Increased to 17 MPH at 5,000 Feet.

Description: Refer to witness audio in the above video. The witnesses stated that they were having a New Year's party and saw the lights moving towards the west. They took some video footage. (Apparently some still photos were also taken.) The witnesses stated that 9 lights were visible. The video appears to show 7 lights meaning some of the lights may not have fit into the video frame.

Comments: The video fits the description by other independent groups of witnesses in the San Diego area. The media (Fox 6 News) has proposed that the lights could have been Chinese Lanterns. Chinese Lanterns are launched on New Years as part of tradition. They are illegal in most areas because of fire danger. They can rise to about 5,000 feet and will drift with the wind.

The movement of the lights was with the wind. This does not mean that the lights were Chinese Lanterns. I think it quite possible that the same group of lights were visible in the San Francisco Bay area and the San Diego area only minutes apart. (The San Francisco sightings occurred only minutes after midnight while the San Diego sightings occurred closer to 30 minutes after midnight.) The lights were visible to the southeast in San Francisco and drifted west. The lights were visible to the northwest in San Diego and also drifted towards the west. The possibility exists that the lights drifted to the west in the Bay area and then became visible from San Diego to the northwest. If this is true, the lights would have been very high in the atmosphere (130 miles) and obviously could not have been Chinese lanterns.
In addition witnesses and photos in the Bay area show that the lights moved relative to one another. This fact also makes the Chinese lantern theory less likely.

Iar luminile filmate in San Diego se deplasau dinspre est spre vest in aceeasi directie in care batea vantul .

Science is the great antidote to the poison of enthusiasm and superstition.
