"Cel mai cunoscut dintre filmele anonime", cum a fost numit de critica, este un film SF cu buget foarte mic, dar foarte bine facut la nivelul regiei si al actorilor. Povestea folosita pentru a vorbi despre societatea umana, despre structura si problemele sale, este urmatoarea: doi pamanteni, Vova (inginer constructor) si Scripcarul (student), se trezesc brusc pe o alta planeta, dupa ce au apasat ce nu trebuia pe minusculul aparat al unui vagabond care pretindea ca este in vizita de pe o alta planeta. Astfel se trezesc in mijlocul desertului, care este relieful definitoriu al planetei Pluk, din galaxia Kin Dza Dza. Locuitorii sai sunt umanoizi si telepati, ceea ce explica faptul ca vorbesc ruseste. In fapt, limba lor cunoaste un numar extrem de limitat de cuvinte (10 la numar, cu denumiri pentru bani, politist, combustibil s.a.), plus un cuvant universal: "ku". Au o sudalma "acceptata social", universala si ea in folosire: "kiu". Social, civilizatia de pe Pluk si planetele apropiate este extrem de involuata, in timp ce la nivel stiintific depaseste de cateva ori societatea umana (diferenta vizibila in domeniul calatoriei, inclusiv a celei in timp si spatiu, al armelor etc.). Acesta si este marele paradox pe care este construit filmul, restul fiind micile amanunte care contribuie la texturarea realitatii.

Diferenta de statut social se face pe baza unui aparat care, indreptat spre o persoana, isi schimba culoarea in portocaliu (pentru ciatlani, cei importanti) si verde (pentru pataci, cei mici). Cel mai de pret lucru din aceasta lume este "kt"-ul, chibriturile, care echivaleaza cu 2200 de "ciatli". In incercarea de a se intoarce acasa, Unchiul Vova si Scripcarul au de strabatut un drum lung si periculos, presarat cu numeroase aventuri.
